The Place of Restoration is a faith-based non-profit corporation created for Men's discipleship and community restoration.
The Place of Restoration is a ministry to rehabilitate the broken men of society through building a new life in Christ Jesus. It is a tenet of this Ministry that a genuine born again experience is required to control antisocial behavior and the recidivism rates that occur in our community. We emphasize the participant's spiritual needs as well as their physical and emotional requirements and provide a structured, supportive environment for the development of the morals, ethics, and work skills necessary for success in our community.
We are providing an opportunity for a new beginning. We are setting the captives free. Mere sobriety, staying out of jail or prison. or leaving life on the street is not the goal. Our goal is that our residents live a truly free, to be productive and healthy and dedicated to a life in Jesus Christ. We are responding to a simple need with understanding; we are loving those who do not know love and instilling in them our desire to succeed in life. That is our mission.
1 Corinthians 1:26-30 "Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things and the things that are not to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God that is our righteousness, holiness and redemption."
It not enough to just pray about the spiritual needs of Tacoma, but to truly care for the spiritually poor living there. We need to take back the streets, living and walking on them. We have to possess them. We used to look at the problems people face like addiction, homelessness, or joblessness and think "...if they just stopped using, or got a job their problems would go away..." After walking with them however, we realized that their problems are much deeper than that. Most have been terribly broken by life; they have been beaten, abused, robbed, and raped by those who were supposed to protect them. This abuse usually began as children and continued into all their relationships, marriages, and then on to their own children in and endless cycle.
Healing and restoration will only come through the love of God and His Church. It is the expectation of this ministry that the love of Jesus Christ, flowing through the staff and those who take part in this ministry, will change lives in society and, more importantly, will change those lives for the Kingdom of GOD! Therefore, we feel that by ministering, disciplining, and building the whole person, we take on God's challenge and commission to reach out to the unlovable, the lost, and the unfortunate, winning them over to a saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The Place of Restoration has a simple goal of loving the people God places in front of us, caring for the victims of poverty, homelessness, addiction, and hopelessness due to tragic life circumstances. We aim to see Jesus meet their spiritual, emotional, mental and physical needs. (Hurts, Habits and Hang-ups) We are doing this through ministry training and internships for jobs. We will teach them a trade and help find a job. We also have built networks and formed alliances with many churches and city, county, state, and federal agencies to help those in need. To be His hands, the body of Christ must get out of the building. We must walk the streets God has given us and extend ourselves to those in need.
The tangible things are always needed like clothes, food, and a place to stay. However, it is the intangible things like a listening, non-judgmental ear, a kind word, and the Word of God spoken to the heart that ministers the love of God. This is what The Place of Restoration is all about. The book of 1 Timothy is a guiding force for this ministry:
"I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen." 1 Timothy 1:12-17
We are a shared men's house and job training program. We are a Jesus discipleship ranch, "The Place of Restoration." We also provide ministry training and internships for jobs. We have four houses on two acres. We follow Jesus, and are becoming His disciples. We live the book of 1 Timothy. We take DOC funds, SSI, and state housing vouchers. We provide transportation to church, appointments and group activities. There is $100.00 move in fee. We have a general contracting company that provides work for training and for needed expenses. There are application and program requirements.
Our program includes housing options (The Place of Restoration) and Celebrate Recovery (Christian 12 step) as the core curriculum. We will provide community based discipleship classes, counseling, and prayer. Each individual will be assessed and then placed into programming to meet their specific needs. Furthermore, we network with other faith-based organizations and community and governmental agencies to address the specific needs of individuals who have been caught in the cycle of addiction, crime and tragic life circumstances. We do not claim to have all the answers, but we know that all of the answers are available within the Bible and the Christian community. The number one thing for our residents to accomplish is to establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through Bible study and by developing a more personal knowledge of Jesus Christ, We provide Christian mentoring and encouragment to our residents, and help them to develop a personal relationship with God.
We assist residents with obtaining birth certificates as well as social security and ID cards so that they can become more employable in the community. We also have a construction company where we can train our residents under an internship program, for those who want to acquire the skills necessary to obtain gainful employment once they transition out. We are networking with other agencies such as Associated Ministries, Washington department of Corrections, Work Source, Veteran Affairs, department of Vocational rehabilitation, Bates Vocational Technical College, Clover Park Vocational/Technical College and many others to help assist our residents.
